OPEN FARM SUNDAY PRESS RELEASE
Following the success of last year’s event, Stocks Farm, Suckley are delighted to be supporting LEAF Open Farm Sunday again this year. Please come and join us on SUNDAY 10th JUNE 2018 from 11am to 2pm. Entry is free with a voluntary donation to Suckley School for playground equipment and there will also be an opportunity to purchase food and drinks while here.
Stocks Farm is a 200-year-old family owned and run hop and apple farm on the glorious Herefordshire/Worcestershire border. It has been in the Capper family for more than half a century, and is proud to be growing quality British Hops and Apples in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Hops and apples are a huge part of the local history. We welcome visitors each year to experience first hand what will be harvested for breweries, home brewers, cider makers and supermarkets throughout the UK and worldwide. Stocks Farm owners, Richard & Ali Capper, will share their knowledge, give you a tour of the internationally famous BRUFF hop picking machine and kiln, explain the growing season of modern hop farming and give you a tour of the eating and cider apple orchards. The orchard tour will necessitate some walking - between half a mile and a mile on even ground. Please ensure you have appropriate footwear.
Gates open at 11am prompt for an introduction and then tours commence.

The sun was shining, the groom awaited his bride with ease, and our beautiful bride looked AMAZING!
The Royal Wedding came to Suckley!
A big thank you to Rev. Anne Potter for coming in and teaching the children about a marriage ceremony! A big well done to our Harry (Ralph) and Meghan (Holly) for being our very own royal couple.
The children really enjoyed being apart of a wonderful celebration!
Now who is for afternoon tea?
We were delighted that Her Majesty and Prince Philip could attend our Commonwealth Big Lunch today, to mark the meeting of the Commonwealth heads of state, and that they took time out of their busy schedule! It was also fun to parade the countries before them and to sing Happy Birthday to Her Majesty on her 92nd celebration.
Her Majesty was also pleased to inform the members who attended the lunch of the birth of her Grandchild - a boy to William and Kate.
Undeterred by 'The Beast From The East' Suckley School children and staff made it through the snow in the most fabulous costumes inspired by our favourite author's characters- Julia Donaldson and David Walliams. We have loved this week sharing stories, books and characters.
We have also entered the World Book Day love of reading competition with a display of our ideas about books.
Read three of Eagles class book reviews on Antigone, their class reader:
Antigone
By Sophocles (version- Ali Smith)
Published – 2011: Pushkins Children’s Books
Illustrator - Laura Paoletti
Genre: Greek Tragedy
Antigone is a brilliant, strong-minded, young girl, who wants justice and will not give up. She will fight through thick and thin (so don’t get on the wrong side of her). She is a princess, who wants power but most of all she wants peace.
This Greek tragedy will have you crying, it will have you laughing but most of all - it will leave you gasping! The two main characters (Antigone and Ismene) are left with nothing after the battle in Thebes; except maybe a power-craving, blood thirsty dictator of an uncle. He is the king ……
After going through so much, the two sisters loose both their brothers in the battle of who should take the throne. Who really is the hero or the villain?
By Lilly F Year 6
Antigone must be one of the best books I have ever read. Antigone and her sister Ismene are on a mission to try and bury their dead brother Polynices, who was a traitor. But when a new ruler arrives everything changes. King Creon (the new ruler) says that anybody who tries to bury him will be stoned to death!
By Isaac G Year 5
Antigone is a wild girl, who seeks to bury her dead brother - Polynices, but her tyrannical uncle, King Creon, has declared that anybody who tries to bury him will be killed! Antigone decides to try. Will she die?
