Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back after the Easter holidays! We hope you all had a lovely break and managed to enjoy some rest and family time. It’s hard to believe we are already heading into the summer term – where has the year gone?!
The summer term is always such an exciting one and we have so much to look forward to. There’s the buzz of SATs, swimming, residentials, leavers’ services, sports days, summer fayres, and of course our fantastic Key Stage 2 production. This year we are incredibly excited to be performing The Wizard of Oz at the Conquest Theatre – more details will be coming your way very soon!
Our Learning This Term
Our topic this term is There’s No Place Like Home. Our learning and creativity are being inspired by some wonderful books. We began with our whole‑school text One Little World by Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho,a poignant picture book about friendship, navigating playground arguments, and the power of saying "sorry." We will then explore Cloud Busting by Malorie Blackman, a powerful story told in verse about friendship, standing up for what is right, and finding your voice. Finally, we turn to the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, following Dorothy’s journey from home to the magical land of Oz and back again, exploring ideas of courage, friendship, self‑belief and, of course, what “home” really means – all while building excitement for our upcoming KS2 production!
The children will also be exploring our local area, thinking about the opportunities around them, learning how medicines and healthcare have changed over time, and considering the exciting possibilities awaiting them in the very near future. Please take a look at the attached topic web which shows how we will be covering the National Curriculum across subjects.
The Team
Mrs Boyle will continue to teach on Monday and Tuesday with Mrs Seward teaching Wednesday-Friday. We are also very lucky to have the continued support of the wonderful Mrs Butler and Mr Walker.

Reading
Regular reading at home is so important and really does make a huge difference. It helps children build fluency, understanding, confidence and – most importantly – a love of reading.
Children should always have a book in school that they are interested in and enjoying, as reading for pleasure is a big focus this term. Please see the attached book ideas for some inspiration for what your child might enjoy next.
Spellings
New spellings are now live on Spelling Shed for the term. Children will also continue practising their bookmark words, which will be tested weekly.
SATs
SATs are approaching quickly, and we will be doing regular revision in school to support the children. That said, the children will continue to enjoy a full and varied curriculum – keeping learning broad, engaging and exciting is so important for confidence, wellbeing and long‑term success.
SATs homework will continue to be sent home weekly to help children feel prepared and confident. Thank you, as always, for your continued support with this.
The children are already excited, motivated and buzzing about everything we have planned this term, and we can’t wait to share all these experiences with them.
As always, our door is open. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns – working in partnership with you is so important to us.
Best wishes,
Mrs Boyle & Mrs Seward
