Buddy Reading.
On a Friday afternoon our buddies come to Wrens classroom to read stories to us. We all love this time so much.
Playing in Wrens Garden.
This week we have enjoyed playing with the fantastic new road signs that Mrs. Tomlinson made for us. Thank you so much Mrs T.
Phonics.
This week we have started our phonics scheme. It is exciting to begin our journey towards independent reading and writing. The class have retained the first phonemes well and had an excellent first attempt at writing graphemes.
EAD - Music.
We were lucky to have a drum workshop with Rythmicity. We got to play a selection of instruments as we listened to the adventures of 'Sammy the Spider'.
Maths - Match, Sort and Compare.
We have been exploring the concept of matching and sorting this week in maths. We have shown good understanding of the mathematical language used, including, 'pair', 'match', 'same' and 'set'. We have been very happy to share our existing knowledge with Mrs P.
Physical Development.
Over the last few weeks we have been working with Mrs. Boyle on developing our physical skills. Using stories as the basis of our adventures, we have been balancing, crossing our mid line and negotiating space and obstacles! Mrs Boyle has been very impressed with our listening and how fast we can get changed!
Expressive Arts and Design.
We have been drawing, painting and printing to create our artwork based on the book 'The Seeds we Sow'. Watch this space to see our finished creations.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the new school term!
The children are settling into school well and are already beginning to learn our routines. They are demonstrating excellent listening skills and a growing understanding of classroom expectations. It has been a fantastic start to their school journey, and we are very proud of them.
At the beginning of each term, we share an overview of the learning that will take place so that you are aware of the experiences and opportunities your child will enjoy over the coming months. A summary of this term's topic, 'The Hero in Me', is attached for your information.
Reception Baseline Assessment
Over the next week, we will be carrying out the statutory Reception Baseline Assessment, as required by the Department for Education. The assessment is completed through a series of fun, practical activities and games, and the children are unlikely to realise they are being assessed.

Keeping Up to Date
We enjoy sharing the children's learning and celebrating their achievements throughout the year. To keep up to date with what we have been learning in Reception, please visit the Wrens class page on the school website, where we will share photographs, updates and examples of learning.

Reading and Reading Books
Reading is a vital part of our curriculum, and we place great emphasis on developing a love of books and stories. Sharing stories helps children build their understanding of the world, develop their imagination and broaden their vocabulary.
Children will choose a library book to take home and share with you. At this stage of the year, it is expected that these books will be read to your child rather than by your child. Please record each time you share a book together in their reading record.
As the children begin learning their phonics, they will start to bring home phonics flashcards and blending books to practise the sounds and words they are learning in school. These resources will help to build their confidence and support their early reading skills. Reading scheme books will be introduced later in the term once children have developed the necessary phonics knowledge and blending skills.
To help you support your child's reading journey at home, we will be holding a parent information meeting in the coming weeks. This will provide further information about our phonics programme and how reading is taught in Reception, along with practical ways you can help at home.
Woodland School
Once the site is ready, Woodland school will be on a Thursday afternoon. Please make sure you are sending you child in a long sleeved top and trousers. This makes sure we are compliant with the risk assessments and keeps scratches to a minimum.
Photographs from Home
Each child has a special space on our classroom display board, and we love filling these with photographs that are meaningful to them. These photographs provide valuable opportunities for children to talk about their family, friends, pets, interests and experiences, helping to develop their confidence and communication skills.
If you have not yet sent in any photographs, we would be very grateful if you could do so. Printed photographs are ideal, but please speak to a member of the Reception team if you need any assistance.
