Welcome Back to the Summer Term!
Dear Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed a restful Easter and enjoyed some time in the sunshine. We have been happy to welcome your children back for the final term of this academic year (how have we got here already?) We are so excited to watch them continue to flourish with new topics and opportunities.
Mrs Boyle will continue to teach from Monday to Wednesday, while Mrs Seward takes over on Thursday and Friday. We are fortunate to continue being supported by the fantastic Mrs Butler and Mr Walker and are so lucky to be welcoming back Miss Pagett who will continue on student placement with us for most of this term!
As always, we will begin with a whole school topic this time based on The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson, which builds on our Litter Picking event, supporting us in thinking about Sustainability, looking after our Ecosystem and hinges on the idea that where there is a dream, hope can grow.
Our topic continues this theme of caring for our planet beautifully with investigating Our Place in the World through a range of subjects including History, Art, Science, Geography, Computing, DT and English. The children will learn about key advances throughout history such as The Victorians and railway development since the launch of Robert Stephenson’s Rocket 200 years ago. We will consider the impact that the birth of the Industrial Revolution has had on our planet and the Climate Crisis. We will explore our role in supporting and caring for our planet to deepen our understanding of Sustainability and will use the book The First Year by Matt Goodfellow to explore where the children are in their lives and the changes, challenges and exciting opportunities they will meet. Later in the term, we are all very excited to begin rehearsing Oliver with a Twist to further explore a Victorian childhood and to showcase our performance skills! We can’t wait; more information to follow soon!
We have attached a topic web that provides more details about the rich learning opportunities this exciting topic- led by the interests of your children- presents.
PE will resume on Tuesday afternoons with Tom from PACES. Please ensure that full PE kits with trainers are in school ALL WEEK, with long hair tied back and earrings either removed or covered. Forest school will continue every Wednesday, long sleeves and trousers MUST be worn despite the sunnier weather and waterproofs should stay in school just in case (The Great British Weather!) Sun hats and sun cream should also be left in school for the warmer days.
Students are required to bring their reading and spelling records to school every day. Spellings will be sent home each Monday and should be practiced both in school and at home. Additionally, children who read four or more times a week will receive a golden ticket for our prize draw and the chance to win a book sent directly from David Walliams.
As always, our doors are always open so please let us know how we can support you and your child during this last term of school. It is a busy but exciting one (and emotional one), with SATs, residentials, school musicals and our Year 6 leaver’s events. We can’t wait to share these special times with your children.
Warmest wishes,
Mrs Boyle & Mrs Seward
Mrs Butler, Miss Pagett & Mr Walker
