Writing

Writing something everyday is really important to keep your skills honed and gives you an opportunity to practise your punctuation, grammar and spelling.

Today's Purple Mash writing task is to create a poem about a tiger (or another wild animal).

Alternatively, make a book describing your memories in order to celebrate this year at Suckley.  What went well; what challenges have you overcome; what was the funniest moment and what was the most embarrassing moment of your year?  Remember to set the scene so that the reader/listener can imagine what it was like.

Brush up on your grammar by completing the Spelling and Grammar task related to "A Tiger Path" and practise your spelling by copying carefully and finding different ways to remember them.

Have you learnt the spellings for this year?  Get an adult to test your and note down any you get incorrect.  Take some of these tricky ones and invent a way to remember them.

Emotional health benefits:

1. Helping others feels good

2. It brings a sense of belonging and reduces isolation

3. It helps to keep things in perspective

4. It helps make the world a happier place – it’s contagious!

5. The more you do for others, the more you do for yourself

Physical health benefits:

1. It reduces stress

2. It helps get rid of negative feelings

Visit Bitesize to remind yourself about figurative language.

"Hyperbole, similes and metaphors are all types of figurative language that help to make your writing more interesting.

They can be particularly helpful for creating an image of what you are writing about in the reader’s mind.

Recap the difference between literal and figurative language."

Our mental health and wellbeing is very important and is at the heart of our school.  Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week and this year the theme is Kindness to ourselves to others and to the planet.

To support all those families and children who are finding life difficult due to social isolation, please could you be generous.  We are asking you to donate a beautiful picture, an uplifting poem, an interesting letter or a story to be included in parcel drops for people who are suffering.  Thoughtful words and acts of kindness make a real difference, bring a moment of happiness and make people feel connected.  Sharing your wonderful creations will bring joy to others.

Please send your contribution via email (fcullerne@suckley.worcs.sch.uk) before Thursday so that I can forward it to the local Community First and Wellbeing Hub.  They will then print your work and arrange distribution across Worcestershire.

On Friday 8th May it is the 75th Anniversary of Victory Over Europe, when the nation will join together to commemorate the service and sacrifice of the WWII generation , then and now. We want you and your families to explore VE Day together and help us show our thanks to this inspiring generation.

We have made a link with a Royal British Legion care home called Galanos House, which is in Warwickshire. It offers nursing care and day care for the Armed Forces community and their families. As part of the VE Day celebrations, we thought it would be lovely if the children could write a letter and post it to the residents at the care home to thank them for making our world a safer and better place. It could include a picture of themselves and tell the residents a little bit about themselves to cheer them up in Lockdown.

The address to sent the letters to is:
