This Autumn term our theme is 'The Rights of Children'. We shall access this topic in a cross/curricular way to add depth and breadth to our study. At the end of the theme we shall produce a Carol service in the style of an old time musical hall and a play based on a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
Our Suckley Skills:
Our Suckley skills this term will be based on: Thoughtfulness, Teamwork and Reflection.
Forest School and PE:
Forest School will take place on a Tuesday afternoon and PE sessions will take place on a Monday afternoon and a Tuesday morning.
- Thursday 29th September, Eagles Class had a visitor from the Victorian Era, Miss Richards. Miss Richards was our matron and she made us suffer if we did not do as we were told. The punishments in Victorian Times were very harsh. The girl’s activities included: sewing, baking and learning the ABC as well as reciting a poem of the day. It went like this:
Good great better,
I shall learn not speak
For I am lucky to have an education
The boys activities included:art, gardening, woodwork, maths, handwriting, playing games such as skipping, yo - yo,diabolo tricks, cup and ball as well as whips and tops and marching.
Some interesting facts:
Girls had to sit on one side of the classroom and the boys sat on the opposite side
Children sat in rows - facing the front
Children wrote on slates with pencils
Rich children had pens that you dipped in an ink pot
Children chanted their times tables
Children always practised handwriting
Children had to wear a dunce's cap if they were talking or not keeping up with the other children's learning!!!!
